Outdoor Entertaining Tips
Outdoor entertaining has a certain magic. Parties seem to ignite with simple food, festive drinks, good music and a beautiful day. When venturing outside, here are some issues to consider:
- Have a rain plan!
- Provide protection from the sun. Consider renting a casual party tent.
- Make sure grassy areas are dry enough to stand comfortably.
- Have convenient access to the toilet facilities.
- Plan easy access for the hostess to the kitchen.
- Have cans of insect repellant available.
- Llight citronella candles after the food service, if possible. The citronella scent can overpower more appetizing food aromas.
- Protect napkins and other lightweight items from breezes by securing under glasses or plates. Prevent tablecloths from blowing by tying the corners down with decorative ribbon or corner clips.
- Display delicate centrepieces just before serving so they don’t become wind-whipped.
- Fill your garden table with platters of delicious food, and then remove the chairs for easy access to the goodies.
- Serve food that is easy to navigate with either a fork or fingers, unless guests are seated at tables.
Regardless of the party type or place, the space needs to feel “right-sized” to keep energy from dissipating. Define the party perimeter with decorations so it feels more intimate. If guests are dispersed throughout a big area, the party never really ignites.
ENJOY yourself in the great outdoors!
